The casing would keep the grit out of the windings. Then rinse out the motors with fresh water after each dive. I'm somewhat skeptical of the longevity and reliability of water flooded motors. Maybe have the motor assembly fresh water compensated i.e.: just flooded with distilled water similar to the oil compensated motors.
