Perhaps the Grumman canoe department decided to compete with the lunar lander department. 

Perhaps it might be a submersible houseboat, given that it lacks a large propulsion system. The Martine submarine would also be a good yacht. Are there plans and manuals for Ben Franklin ?

Ben Franklin is a really interesting submarine. It's amazing that Grumman had the time and people available to build it when they were fully into getting the Apollo Lunar Module flying. 

It sure would be a great submersible yacht.
