[PSUBS-MAILIST] Alternative battery for SSB-2010

Justin, in the early days on the R300, I switched from the battery pack in the OTS SSB-2010 Radio to the power supply of my boat. Big mistake. Over the years, I have dealt with all kinds of noise that the SSB-2010 apparently cannot filter out. I did not figure this out till much later. My guess is there was never a need for OTS to invest much in filtering power because with divers, the self-contained battery pack with short leads from the pack to PCB in the radio does not genrate my electrical noise. I have since switched back to using rechargeable batteries like Jon mentions. It is a pain in the butt, but given all the PWM noises my motor controllers make and the PWM on my exterior lights, it's for the best.

Thanks Jon! Has anyone here ever powered their comms from the sub, or are you all just running with batteries?

Oh nice, that would work perfectly! Mine were off eBay and they came with the original battery but they don’t seem to hold a charge very well. Let me know if you have pictures or links to the AA one

I have not seen a "pack" replacement, but as Alec said, my units came with a generic 8-AA plastic battery holder with a 9-volt type wiring harness. Better off using this and AA lithium batteries that can be recharged via an external charger. Walmart has an 8-pack battery charger for $22.

Greetings! Have any of you found a decent off the shelf battery as a replacement for the OTS 12v NiMH battery in the SSB-2010? I could probably build one with spare cells I have lying around, but I was just wondering if there's anything out there that's cheaper than the $150 OTS wants for the official replacement.
