I live here in San Diego so I?m doing research to find good sites and logistics for the event. The tentative plan now would be to be based out of Vacation Island in Mission Bay, lots of great launch ramps available there. The bay itself is shallow but it would be perfect for subs just recently finished and needing a calm area to test (like mine!). But with a tow vessel the open ocean is accessible from there, and just outside the channel is Wreck Alley, with five or so wrecks in 60-120ft of water. We?re still in the initial planning phase so any suggestions are welcome, but that?s what I?ve been thinking so far! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Last week, I was in San Diego helping Justin Helland complete a successful dunk test for Toto. During our off?time, Justin and I visited several potential sites that would be involved if a Psub convention were held in San Diego. We looked at multiple ramp locations, conference rooms for presentations, and housing options on Vacation Island in Mission Bay. Everything looked excellent. Each ramp we evaluated could launch at least five boats at a time, which means no pressure from other boaters and plenty of room to work safely. There?s also some great stuff to see in the area, including the Star III manned submersible, which now sits as a static display in front of the Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. For those bringing spouses, Balboa Park offers a lot to explore, including several very good museums. I will be there and would be glad to make a presentation. Nailing down completion dates for Psubs is notoriously difficult, but I will make every effort to bring the R400. Eight months ? the clock is ticking. I need to get back to my shop. With any luck, we can get over to the?Scripps Institution for a tour. I was hoping to have made the last one and give a presentation on the Q-Sub but had an electrical incident Dec 2nd. Still just sorting it as it was a major and had to repair replace all 11 motors controllers plus the Engine controls due to CAN system being spiked. Was really gutted and took me three months just to get my head around the rebuild. Poor design allowed it to happen and inexperienced Tech. I was 2 days from putting it in the water tank for testing.
