Hi Jon,
I think it would make a potential bomb!
There would be a fare amount of air space between the top of the battery
& the battery box cover needed to allow for the height of the battery terminals.
Hydrogen could build up there & if one of the multitude of terminal connectors
came loose & sparked, the combination of air & hydrogen could be explosive.
A few people in the group are oil compensating batteries ( Hank, Scott) with
external bladders & a valve on top for releasing any pressure build up from off
gassing ( mainly during charging).
